I think it's a lot of trial and error, but it's always better to learn from other people's mistakes! I suggest looking for clothes you find fit the bill of being comfortable, and being flattering. Even the most fashionable top can look bad on the wrong body type. If you check out Lookbook you can find a lot of fun ideas and get a good ideas of particular trends. Some people think you need to spend a lot of money to be fashionable, but I think combining thrift stores, Forever 21 (a lifesaver!) and a good eye can work just as well. Luckily, the whole vintage trend allows for thrift stores to be cool and many cheap places to easily imitate the look. However, you also should find your identity in there somewhere, too! I know I try to rock my Flaming Lips and Lucky Star shirts some days, too. Because it's what I love! <3
