It really does! I dont wear bright colors cause it makes me look like a weirdo... Since i am a weirdo and have issues according to some people i pick out crazy colored clothes...I also like Lolita but doubt that would look good on me. :\
Wow, you're rather hard on yourself!

When you wear something different, or even get a new haircut, it always feels strange. Sometimes you may feel great, other times you'll feel self-conscious. Either way, it takes a while to feel completely comfortable.

If you want to try loli styles, you don't have to go all out immediately ^_~ Try some cute hair accessories, or a different cut of skirt. Make changes gradually so that you can assess whether they suit you (and avoid shocking your mother too much, haha).

If you're no longer flat-chested (hurrah for you!) you'll have to adapt the styles that you wear anyway. It's more important that clothes fit well, especially if you're wearing block colour, like your mother's favoured black. You now have curves, so try a waist defining belt. That will take the focus off your chest too, until you're more comfortable with that ^w^

I've already typed loads, oops. I'll finish by saying that, although I don't know the stores you mention, maybe your mother is stuggling with your becoming a woman. It must be tough to see her princess grow up, however wonderful a parent she may be! I don't really agree with the generation gap thing, perhaps your mother has some issue with her body and the way she looks, so she chooses 'safer' styles, even if they age her.

Ha, I said I'd finish! I'll try again... If you need your mother to accept that you're no longer a child, it's not all about the way you look. Are there any duties or responsibilities you can take from her?

Ooh, one more thing. If you look at the way a garment is made, it can give you a clue as to what it's trying to do for you (obviously it covers you and maybe keeps you warm, but that's not what I mean lol). Ever thought of learning some sewing techniques?

O.o Islam proposes modesty and so does Lolita. So, it's allowed. In fact, some Muslim gothic Lolitas exists:

http://muslimlolita.blogspot.com/200...ke-gothic.html (the author of this blog, I believe)
    http://muslim-jfashion.livejournal.com/
    http://egl.livejournal.com/15923960.html

As for todays fashion. there are plenty non-revealing clothes for women that look very modern and fashionable. If you're thin, consider trying this:

Now don a white inside shirt to preserve modesty!

The same goes for the attire at your left, the one at the right can do just like that just fine. If you still feel like you need to cover your legs pantyhouses or leggings will do .

I know you're an 11 year old and none of this pics have models around your age, but the beauty about dresses and shirts is that you can made them have an "older" or "younger feel in the look with the correct accesories (for example, a plushie bag, I love those n.n). Besides, most of the stuff I see for 9 year olds and up look like older people stuff, so you should be able to find something you are comfortable with.

If you're tall enpough, you should consider buying at the petite section of grown-ups, since you can find (surprisingly) age-appropriate things there for you. I used to do it because I was like 1.45 cm (that's 4 ft 9 inches) and that's quite tall for a 10-year old in Panama.

I looked up skinny women because that made my job easier when googling, ha, ha, since I don't know your size but if you're pudgy or curvy or whatever, tell me, and I'll dig up some styles for you!

It's not difficult to be modern and modest but you need to spend a good deal of time looking for the adequate clothes.

PS: I don't think you'll look reatrded with Lolita. You are most certainly a very pretty girl.

It makes me sad that anyone would so self-critcal

I can't imagine why your religion would issue a blanket ban on gothic lolita. I have read the Qu'ran, but I realise there are many denominations and interpretations. Perhaps you could discuss the meaning of modesty with your Imam?

Goth-loli is like any fashion trend, it's open to interpretation. The climate in where you live will also influence it. But I do believe it's possible to customise the styles you like to allow you to feel fantastic without drawing disapproving glances from within your community.

After all, isn't experimentation most of the fun?

There's no need to buy from specialist boutiques. I'm not in America, so I can't advise you on where you can shop, unfortunately. I'm pretty sure other members can though ^^

Can you post a pic of an outfit you'd like to aspire to?

Maybe it's no big deal, but I want to apoligize if I offended you from my last post. I didn't realize you're Muslim. That explains why you're having trouble with finding what to wear and why you're mother is hard to satisfy. I guess I didn't get your hint when you mentioned something about a type of clothing you like that Muslims wear. I thought that you ment that you just like it. I didn't see that as you actually being one yourself. I don't have anything against that though. It must be really hard to find what you could or couldn't wear when you practice a very conservative religion. Well, I've seen some Muslims that dress like everyone else but in a way that's not so revealing and still cover their hair with a scarf. However, it seems that in your case it's even more conservative. Um......I really, really, really wish I could help you. I'm not trying to give up on you or anything, but I can only suggest to try clothes like the pictures that efairyofthesea posted up above. That's what I meant too. Lolita? I'm not saying no, but you can't really wear that to school or anything like that because that's kinda considered a costume than an actual everyday outfut. Wear it it you can, but be realistic about when and where you can wear those kind of clothing and accessories. Gosh, this came out longer than I expected, but I made my point already so I'll stop. Again, good luck!!

Actually, being small is to your advantage!! Most of the cheap stuff is chinese, and their sizes are smaller. Also, consider internet shopping.

On the EGL Community look up "Taobao" and cheap Lolita clothes. the comments are really helpful, and since most of the community lives in the States you'll find a post that will most certainly direct you where to go.

Make an account on Livejournal and ask, if the current Questions and answers don't satisfy you. Is a very kind community, but there are a couple of trolls roaming around so I warn you not to dismay at first. Eventually the nice people will come and help you out

If your mum does not approve, don't despair!! There are plenty of today's clothes that are easy to lolify, plus, you'll look casual enough to go down the street without anybody shouting stuff at you!

You look that up or PM me to give you some links!
